Craig is out of town for a Les Schwab meeting for a few days. I realized tonight just how much I need his adult company and conversation at the end of the day. Today every statement I made to Con and Coco was answered with a "Why" or "How Come". I found myself wanting to revert to the standard old "BECAUSE I SAID SO" rather then search for a meaningful answer. Connor has been learning bible verses at school and teaching them to Coco at home. One verse he recently learned ends with ...we are his people and the sheep of his pasture. Both have been saying this verse for weeks. Today Connor listened to the words and struggled with the meaning.
Connor: Mom we're not sheep. Why does God want us to be sheep?
Mom: No Connor we're not sheep. It means God takes care of us like a shepard caring for his sheep.
Connor: I don't want to be a sheep. I don't like sheep!
Mom: Honey, you don't have to be a sheep. It simple means God will watch over you.
Connor: I really don't want to be a sheep. Sheep are white, I don't like white, can I be a tractor instead? Will he still watch over me? What about dinosaurs, shepards don't watch over dinosaurs, I want to me a T-Rex they eat sheep.
Mom: Yes, you can be anything you want its just a metaphor. I does NOT mean you have to be a sheep.
Connor: Coco doesn't want to be a sheep she wants to be a kitty. She likes kitties, can she be a kitty Mom?
Mom: Yes, she can.
Connor: OKAY. I'll just be plain Connor, okay Mom. Can I have a snack?
And then all was well at the Hendrickson house. We don't have to be sheep God will still watch over us and Yes, we can have a snack.
